Today, I want to share my observation about UX and graphical design during online service development with Ruby on Rails. This is based on experience with our clients who are usually SaaS startups.

Those who start with cheap ready-made themes perform better in terms of time to market. Those who start with UX spend weeks and even months for high fidelity prototypes, then on slicing that into markup and making changes for responsive. In result, those who started lean released or have fully functional MVP when some have only UX or HTML/CSS markup.

You might say this is too superficial and each case is different, but c’mon this is blog of my personal superficial observations.

The choice is up to the client, though I nowadays always advice to take a look on superior quality cup-of-coffee-priced themes before investing thousands and weeks into design without any validated assumption or feedback from real user.

It takes little time adding themes to Ruby on Rail application. Take a look for yourself on those that are based on twitter bootstrap, https://wrapbootstrap.com/
