Windows is historically the platform of choice for embedded development. Therefore as Nerves continues to grow, a Windows solution is needed. Today we will tell about Windows solution for Elixir developers.
Nerves is Elixir project that defines an entirely new way to build embedded systems using Elixir. It is specifically designed for embedded systems, not desktop or server systems. You can think of Nerves as containing three parts: platform, framework, tooling. Taken together, the Nerves platform, framework, and tooling provide a highly specialized environment for using Elixir to build advanced embedded devices. Our special topic today is how to simplify work of Elixir developers for Windows.
There are 2 fundamental approaches to Nerves-on-Windows:
- Pretend it’s Unix
- Run it as a Windows app
Both of them are shown in details in The Road to Windows article. Examples are provided.
