Electron is a popular project from GitHub that’s heavily used to create desktop apps with modern Web technologies (such as VS Code and Slack’s desktop client). Recently we introduced some new features and the underlying dependencies. And today we are pleased to announce the new release of Electron 6.0.0.
You can install the new version with npm via
npm install electron@latest or download it from the releases website. The new release is packed with upgrades, fixes, and new features that we would like to share with you:
- The new version of Chromium
- The new update of Node.js
- The new version of V8
- Many functions now can return Promises and support older callback-based invocation, like:
- Chromium added three new variants of the Helper app: for renderers (
Electron Helper (Renderer).app), for the GPU process (
Electron Helper (GPU).app) and for plugins (
Electron Helper (Plugin).app).
shell.showItemInFolder()now returns void and is an asynchronous call
